From the IOW Health and well-being board:

Out of 5 options for our NHS on the Island they are proposing to recommend Option 3. Below is a summary of what these options are but we will find out for sure at the CCG meeting on February 1st when the blue print for Acute Services Redesign will be signed off anf handed to the Governing body. However this may not be the end of the story as the proposals have to be approved by a higher Authority on the mainlamd and it has to be deliverable in conjunction wiith the rest of Hampshire.

Essentially the first two options would leave everything as it is but Option 2 would mean there was more staff flexibility.

Option 3 would retain 96% of services on the Island with a few very specialist operations being undertaken on the mainland with people recuperating on the Island.

Option 4 is similar but with 89% of services remaining on the Island and more mainland specialist operations/ referrals. We don’t know the exact operations which would be undertaken on the mainland and the exact difference between Options 3 and 4 is still unclear.

Those were the four original options but NHS England are insisting on the CCG considering a fifth option which would be much more drastic and only leave 46% on the Island. The understanding is that nobody is likely to support that option as it would essentially reduce the IOW to Aand E plus maternity services and not much else. There is a view amongst everyone that such an option would be both clinically dangerous and much more expensive because of travel costs etc. So it’s most likely that the CCG will go out to consultation on either Option 3 or 4.
