Havana Theatre Festival dedicated to Peter Brook

The 16th Havana International Theatre Festival – October 22-31 – will be dedicated to the eminent British theatre director Peter Brook and the art of theatre directing.
Noel Bonilla, a member of the organizing committee, announced that 43 foreign and 23 national groups are already confirmed to participate, also noting that a performance featuring 16 Cuban prize winning collectives or significant pieces will also be presented, while parallel activities are scheduled to take place in Pinar del Río, Villa Cla­ra, Cienfuegos and Sancti Spíritus.

Bonilla reported that the festival will be inaugurated on October 22, in the Covarrubias Hall of Havana’s National Theatre with a performance of Charenton (Marat/Sade), by Flora Lauten from the Teatro Buendía Company – celebrating its 30th anniversary this year – during which a message from Peter Brook to Cuban theatre-lovers will be presented.

A parallel agenda of activities will also take place in various spaces around the capital including the Carpa Trompoloco, Raquel Revuelta Cultural Complex and La Villa and Miramar theatres which will see performances by the Ópera de la Calle collective and Escambray Theatre company, among others, in addition to the return of the successful musical Rent, this time showing at the Fábrica de Arte Cubano.
