The neo-liberal offensive, involving Austerity, Productivity and Social Programmes has met with much resistance since the island press first exposed how the Conservative MP has plotted to attack the Social Train network.
Island Line, as part of the South West Trains network is not public but private, yet the network has to, at present, hold together the rights of the public to a funded rail network.
By 2017 the franchise has to be re-assigned to a bidding operator.
Many of the public comments have contributed to the resistance against the plans to break the Island Line from the network, which could undermine its existence altogether.
The Trades Council has called for the plans to be scrapped in favour of the network and for the MP inspired pro-business oriented “Taskforce” to be scrapped and for local Councillors to have no truck with it…
