A pay dispute has caused unrest at Docasters Trucast in Ryde. Workers might have to take strike action if a resolution is not found.
According to Unite union rep, Gerry Rawlinson, the company offered only a 1.5% pay rise or two per cent rise if the workers included bank holidays as part of their annual leave. This is part of the company’s productivity drive to pay for pay rises. Last time they were in dispute over shift patterns and job cuts.
Workers demanded a better settlement this time. Workers were demanding 3.5%.
Shop Steward, Gerry Rawlinson said, the company then agreed to offer a 2% increase without the bank holiday condition and the process moved to pendulum arbitration.
But the company pulled out of the ACAS talks. The workers are pressing for action. The union wants to carry on negotiating.
