In a January 14 press conference, CTC General Secretary Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, also a member of the Party Central Committee and the Council of State, emphasized that the convocation is meant to promote political discussion, and mobilize workers to ensure that economic plans are well formulated and executed.

Guilarte said that the essential purpose of the process is to assure – in every collective, via the disaggregation of figures – a commitment on the part of every Cuban worker, to contribute in a direct manner to economic growth.

The union leader insisted that the projected 4% growth rate for 2015 will only be achieved with the active participation of workers, adding that reports from administrators must provide clear, accurate facts and figures to allow for this essential participation, and ensure that workers’ efforts are effective and well-compensated.
