Isle of Wight council are to reinstate vehicle access to the landlocked homes after a group of Islanders took independent political action and got together to help rebuild a small section of the landslipped road. This was due to inaction by the local PFI business, Island Roads under the ownership of the Vinci/Eurovia Monopoly and also by authority.
Independent actions like this are showing an element of success. This would appear to be the essence of the phenomenon. The more thought that goes into what is going on here will lead to more ‘victories’. As the actions become bigger, then the need for co-ordination and higher consciousness will be the order of the day.
The need for alliance and a whole popular front of different social classes will become more necessary and the effectiveness of the movement will be predicated on this growth in the subjective factor.
At the moment there is a need for more Independent actions before there is a qualitative shift towards an organised form to co-ordinate a movement.
